We have just returned from another wonderful holiday at the Baia Azul. The hotel is modern clean with pools gym etc and fabulous views over the Atlantic especially at night with the lights. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. Cleaniness is first rate. The staff are fantastic very kind and courteous. We had dinner at the hotel and next time will book half board as the food is exceptional for quality and choice. There is evening entertainment for those so disposed, This is our favourite hotel and we look forward to going again in December I highly recommend it. It is a little way out of the capital Funchal so if you want to be at the heart of the capital this may be too far out for you although the hotel does run a courtesy bus every day and the local buses run regularly.
There is absolutely nothing we didn't like about the Baia Azul!

The staff were great at this hotel, a special thanks to Yui the pool bar waiter, this man worked extremely hard to please all guests. Also Carlos Lagando from the lobby bar, nothing was too much trouble for this man and he always wore a smile.
The only thing I could suggest would be to have some form of dampening system on the room doors as we were woken by early risers slamming the room doors.

The moment we arrived we felt welcomed by the staff - friendly and patient, they answered all of our questions while checking us in. Our room had everything we needed and was always a pleasant place to return to after a long day of exploring the island.
The bar and huge terrace were a great place to spend a few evenings, the pool was very popular among all the guests, but we always found space for ourselves. And the gym, though small, was great. Everything was clean and well looked after.
The location is great if you want to spend time at the hotel, go swimming in the ocean (there are options for that nearby), and like to walk. It is about 30-40 minutes walk from the city center, but the hotel offers a complimentary bus once a day to the city and back as well (ask reception for the times). Tour companies come and pick you up from the front door as well.
The breakfast was nice in that there was a lot to choose from, but after a week of pretty much the same choices it began feeling a bit samey. The food quality was still good though.

Beautiful hotel and pool and extremely clean. Good comfortable beds and well maintained. Staff very helpful and breakfast is five star.
Tea supplied on arrival but no coffee, bring your own for the room. Will return.
No coffee or milk in the room.

Very friendly greeting when we arrived at the hotel. Our room overlooking the sea was comfortable and spacious and kept spotlessly clean, as was everywhere in the hotel. Loved the tea making facility! The buffet breakfast was excellent, rivalling any we have had on cruise ships. This was our first holiday in Madeira, it won't be our last and we will definitely return to the Baia Azul.
Noisy wardrobe handles, out of courtesy to guests in adjoining rooms! Charge for safe rather expensive.
